“She composes her oil paintings with powerful,

confident, broad, clear, sensuous brushstrokes,

with beguilingly wild and fresh colours, pervaded

by a light that seems to have come into being of

its own accord in order to talk about things that

are vibrantly present in their rawness, unified

with the body of the world.”

“With this confidently controlled visual language she shows

human beings protectively embedded in nature, but also

existentially threatened and endangered by it; she shows

the comforting transformative power of nature in its coming

into being and passing away, and in the end understands

dying and death as an indissoluble part of life. Because this

gift bestowed by creation is so precious in all its pain and

sorrow, in all its joys and delights, Angelika von Schwedes

has cultivated a stirring lust for colour with which she can

even depict the demise of worlds. Can we imagine a more

relevant painting in our time?”
